The issue is though, we all know Diablo 4 will not go back to it's roots. Grim Dawn for me blends a good balance between pacing, story and world building and is the closest thing to Diablo 2 outside of Diablo 2 only because it seems to embrace older ideals. There's too much that feels very over the top and not grime and grungy looking. The environments are very nicely done, but it once more doesn't really 'fit' the Diablo gothic horror vibe.

It's a beautifully dark world and the areas are really well made, but it's hard to appreciate as the game encourages you to go as fast as you can.ĭiablo 3 (At least for me.) visually speaking looks beautiful from an art point of view. As fun as Path of Exile is, the game is a sardine can of enemies thrown at you. One thing ARPG's of the modern day -fail- to do is let you soak in the environment. And yes it was also much faster paced, but it also understood pacing and knew when to slow things down and when to speed them up.
